Keywords & rank tracking
Track rankings in Search Visibility
Track your position over time across Google's organic results, the local pack, and AI surfaces.
On this page
Search Visibility tracks where you show up on Google over time, so you can see whether the keywords that bring in revenue are gaining or slipping. It watches Google's own surfaces in one place: classic organic results, the Local Pack, AI Overviews, and Google's AI Mode.
Where it lives
You will find it in the sidebar under Tracking > Search Visibility, or go straight to Search Visibility. The overview lists your business locations, each with a snapshot of its latest check. Click into a location to see every tracked keyword, then click a keyword to open its full history.
What it tracks
For each keyword we report four Google surfaces:
- Organic position: where your website ranks in Google's normal (non-paid) results.
- Local Pack: whether your business appears in the map listing shown for local searches.
- AI Overviews and AI Mode: Google's synthesised answers. There is no rank to win here, so we never invent a position. Instead we report whether you appear and which sources Google drew from.
Checks run on desktop and mobile together, so you can see how the picture differs by device.
Adding keywords to track
Keywords come from your keyword library, your shared shortlist of the terms that matter. Add or import terms once, then activate the ones you want watched against a location. A keyword only counts toward your keyword slots while it is active, so you can keep a long list and track a focused few.
Note: Each active keyword uses one keyword slot, and your plan sets how many you get. See How credits and quotas work for the numbers on your plan.
For the full walkthrough, see Build your keyword library.
Reading the trend over time
Open any keyword to see its history as a chart. Switch the lookback window between 7 days, 30 days, 90 days and 1 year to spot movement at the right zoom level. You can step back through individual checks to compare a single day's result, including which competitors sat above you and which sources the AI surfaces cited.
Tip: A drop in organic position with steady Local Pack appearance often points to a content or page issue rather than a local one. Reading both surfaces side by side helps you tell them apart.
Keeping it fresh
You can run a check on demand from a location, or set a schedule so checks repeat automatically and your trend lines stay current without you remembering to refresh them. Manage repeats from the Schedules button on the overview.
How it differs from our other tools
Search Visibility is only about Google. Two neighboring tools answer different questions:
- Geo-Grid Scans take a map-style snapshot of your Local Pack rank across an area, so you can see how visibility changes street by street rather than over time. See Run your first geo-grid scan.
- Answer Engine Visibility checks third-party assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot using prompts, not Google rankings. See Track Answer Engine Visibility.
