Keywords & rank tracking
Rank checks explained
One keyword looked up = one rank check. Keywords are unlimited; how often you check is what counts.
On this page
A rank check is one keyword looked up on Google. That is the only thing your rank tracking allowance counts, and it works the same whether you pressed the button yourself or a schedule ran it overnight.
The model in one line
Track as many keywords and locations as you like. How often you check them is what uses your monthly allowance.
What one check covers
A single check looks your keyword up across Google desktop, Google mobile, the Map Pack and Google's AI results, then records where you rank against your competitors. All of that is one check, not four.
Working out what you need
Two sums tell you everything:
- Your checks divided by 30 is roughly how many keywords you can check every day.
- Your checks divided by 4.3 is roughly how many you can check every week.
So 2,000 checks a month covers about 66 keywords daily, or about 460 weekly, or any mix of the two. Put your most important terms on daily and leave the rest on weekly.
Tip: Weekly is enough for most keywords. Rankings rarely move meaningfully day to day, and checking weekly rather than daily makes your allowance go about seven times further.
How many checks do I get?
Your allowance rises with your plan: Starter includes 500 a month, Pro 2,000, Agency 7,500, and Enterprise is sized to your contract. Every paid plan can check as often as you like, and there is no cap on how many keywords or locations you track. See the pricing page for current numbers.
What happens at the limit
If you run out, checks stop until your allowance resets at the start of the next month. A bulk check bigger than what you have left runs the keywords that fit rather than failing, and tells you how many were skipped. Your schedules are not switched off, they simply pause and pick up again next month.
Two things that save you checks
Already-fresh keywords are skipped. If a keyword was checked in the last 24 hours, checking it again does nothing and costs nothing. Manual and scheduled checks share this, so pressing the button in the morning means that night's scheduled run skips it.
Failed checks are not charged. If something goes wrong on our side, the check does not come out of your allowance.
Note: Rank checks are not scan credits. Rank tracking never spends scan credits, and geo-grid scans never spend rank checks. See How credits and quotas work.
Where to check your balance
Open the allowances menu in the top bar, or Credits in the dashboard, to see how many rank checks you have used this month.
