Keywords & rank tracking

Choose the questions ChatGPT Visibility asks

Add, edit, and shape the questions each keyword is checked with, with tips for writing questions that earn their credit.

A keyword on its own is not how anyone talks to ChatGPT. Nobody types "emergency plumber Leeds" into an assistant; they ask "who can fix a burst pipe in Leeds tonight?". So ChatGPT Visibility checks each keyword you track as a real question, and the questions you choose are the single biggest lever on how useful your results are. This guide shows you how to set them.

Where you shape your questions

Open Tracking > ChatGPT Visibility (/dashboard/ai-visibility) and choose a location. The Keywords & questions panel lists each tracked keyword with the question or questions that will be asked underneath it.

Every keyword starts with a couple of questions drafted for you, so you get useful results without doing anything. From there you can accept them, sharpen them, or add your own.

Shape each question

Each question has three small actions next to it:

  • Edit rewrites it in your own words. Anything you change is marked "yours", so you can tell your wording apart from a draft.
  • Suggest a different question swaps in a fresh phrasing if a draft does not sound like your customers.
  • Remove deletes it. A keyword always keeps at least one question, so you can never empty it by accident.

To add another angle to a keyword, use Write your own to type a question by hand, or Suggest another to have one drafted for you that avoids repeating what is already there.

Tip: Aim for questions that differ in intent, not just wording. "Who is the best florist in Bath?" and "Where can I get same-day flowers in Bath?" test two different moments. Two near-identical questions mostly cost you twice for the same answer.

Draft a whole set at once

If you are setting up several keywords, the Draft questions bar at the top does them in one go. Choose how many angles you want per keyword, then draft. It only fills keywords that have no questions yet and never touches ones you have already shaped, so it is safe to press again after you have curated a few by hand.

How many you can add

Each keyword starts with two questions, and your plan sets how many it can carry in total: up to 10 on Starter, 20 on Pro, 30 on Agency, and 50 on Enterprise. Each keyword shows an "X of Y questions" count so you always know where you stand.

That ceiling is deliberately generous, because the real limit is credits, not the cap. Every question asked once costs one ChatGPT Visibility credit, and your run shows the total before anything happens. So the goal is not to fill the cap; it is to pick the handful of questions that genuinely tell you something. See How credits and quotas work.

Tips for questions that earn their credit

  • Ask the way a customer would say it out loud. Full, natural sentences beat keyword fragments. "Can you recommend a good electrician near Didsbury?" is how people really ask.
  • Name the service and the place. One clear intent and one location per question gives ChatGPT something specific to answer and keeps the result easy to read.
  • Cover the different ways people ask. Best, cheapest, near me, open now, same-day, "who do you recommend". Being named however the question is phrased is exactly what the consistency view measures.
  • Start from your money terms. Anchor questions to the keywords that actually win you work, not vanity phrases you would like to rank for.
  • Spend your extra questions where they matter. Put two or three angles on your most important services, and leave the long tail on a single question each.
  • Edit, do not settle. If a drafted question is close but not quite you, edit it to your real wording rather than tracking something a customer would never say.

Then run and read

Once your questions look right, tick the keywords you want to check and run them, or set a schedule so they refresh on their own. Your results come back as a visibility rate, a share of voice against competitors, and the full answer saved word for word.
